Duties

The AGE STC has a program of research and development in automation of GEOINT tips and cues for imagery sensor data. This research involves expertise in the disciplines of Image Processing, Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, but expertise in Machine Learning or Signal Processing may also be applicable.

The researcher will lead a team of researchers to develop novel application of these disciplines to imagery sensor data to problems specific to Defence. The researcher’s and their team’s developments will be productized by a team of supporting software engineers to enable it to be deployed to our clients and partners; this is undertaken through the Analysts’ Detection Support System (ADSS). The position includes

  • Leadership of and participation in a team of researchers and developers on the creation of automation algorithms for GEOINT data.
  • Develop and provide exemplar code for developed algorithms in a suitable prototyping language, preferably Python or Matlab.
  • Support colleagues in the development, evaluation and transition of developed algorithms to Operational form.
  • Communicate with and managing expectations of clients/partners when necessary in support of the overall program.

The candidate will have requisite knowledge and experience in image processing, computer vision or pattern recognition with a PhD, demonstrated research excellence via publications, demonstrated excellent communication skills and experience in participating in a team environment.

Eligibility

PhD in Image Processing, Computer Vision, or Pattern Recognition and significant postdoctoral experience warranting a senior position.


Machine Learning Research Engineer

Canon's Australian R&D lab CiSRA is looking for a talented machine learning researcher to join our Image and Video Understanding group. You will be working with experts in deep learning, graphical models, reinforcement learning and computer vision to propagate ideas into next generation Canon products and services used around the world. Our multi-disciplinary staff, including 30 PhDs, provides an intellectually stimulating network, boosting advances in technology.

Essential Attributes
  • PhD in a machine learning related field, e.g. computer science or mathematics;
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of machine learning in general, and of specific branches of machine learning, e.g. neural networks or graphical models;
  • Well developed problem analysis and problem solving skills;
  • Experience in writing scientific/technical papers, or patent descriptions;
  • Good communication skills, and the ability to work with other engineers.
Desirable Attributes
  • Experience in applying machine learning algorithms to real-world problems;
  • Affinity with computer vision application domain;
  • Python, Matlab or C++ programming abilities.

Willingness to cooperate in the protection of intellectual property and trade secrets is essential.
